Japanese is spoken by over 125 million people in Japan and by significant diaspora communities in the US. Japanese translation is in consistent demand across legal, financial, corporate, medical, and technical sectors β Japan is one of the largest trading partners of both the US and UK, and Japanese nationals represent a major group in business immigration and corporate transactions.
Translation AZ provides specialist Japanese translation by native-speaking translators with subject-matter expertise. Every Japanese translation is reviewed under our ISO 17100 two-linguist process, with strict attention to register (keigo/honorific language), script accuracy across all three Japanese writing systems, and context-appropriate terminology.

Japanese Writing System: Kanji, Hiragana & Katakana
Japanese uses three writing systems simultaneously. Kanji (ζΌ’ε) are Chinese-derived logographic characters β approximately 2,136 are designated as standard-use (Joyo Kanji). Hiragana (γ²γγγͺ) is a phonetic syllabary used for grammatical elements and native Japanese words. Katakana (γ«γΏγ«γ) is a second phonetic syllabary used primarily for foreign loanwords, technical terms, and emphasis. Formal and legal Japanese documents additionally require attention to register: keigo (ζ¬θͺ, honorific language) has multiple levels β sonkeigo (respectful), kenjogo (humble), and teineigo (polite) β and selecting the wrong register in a legal or business document is a significant error. Our translators are native Japanese speakers with full command of all three scripts and keigo conventions.
